Controversies Surrounding Bratz Big Babyz

The Bratz dolls are a famous brand of fashion dolls that appeared on the market approximately six years ago. Featuring dolls that wear intense make-up and highly vanguard clothes with rebellious looks and accessories, the Bratz line has become extremely popular in a short amount of time.

The Bratz collection has provoked, since their appearance in 2001, various opposing opinions, remarks and criticism. Most of the controversies on the subject of these dolls are based on the idea of promoting the emancipation of young girls, the materialism and the rebellious attitude. One of these collections is the Bratz Big Babyz collection, which includes dolls that are supposed to be young babies. The most confusing aspect of these dolls is that the Bratz Big Babies present features that belong to both adults and babies.

These dolls, which are supposed to represent young children, wear expressive make-up: the lip-gloss shines on the lips and the red or pink nails are highly visible. At the same time, the dolls wear sucking bottles at their necks, which make them seem like actual babies. Another baby element is the pony tail, which also comes as an accessory and which is the favorite hairdo of little girls. Still, the outfit of these dolls is highly fashionable, yet it doesn't look at all like a baby's regular clothes: black leather jackets, platform shoes and teenage or adult pieces of clothing. With these contrasting elements, the Bratz Big Babiez have a unique, yet unreal appearance that appeals to young girls and worries parents, that believe the dolls might send a wrong message to their children.

Even more, there were various complains about the fact that the big babiez wear something similar to a thong under their skirts – a fact which was argued by the representatives of the Bratz company, which explained that the fabric only has a functional and practical purpose and nothing else. The Bratz dolls present a package called Babyz Night Out, which also received other complaints regarding the fact that the concepts of babies and night parties basically should exclude each other.

With a strong opposition between the baby elements and the adult ones, the Bratz Big Babyz started controversy and criticism, based on the idea that these dolls try to promote the premature growth and emancipation of children, instead of promoting the values and joys of childhood. Still, the Bratz Big Babyz are very popular among young girls and teens, despite the concern of their parents.
